Fly Away Team Wood – Michaela Wood

TEAM WOOD Michaela Wood will need no introduction to all those showing enthusiasts who use “Fly Away” products. In 2010 Michaela became one of the youngest riders ever to win the coveted Champion Hack of the Year title at the Horse of the Year Show on “Royal Angel”. From there on she has never looked back with further wins at the HOYS – firstly with her father’s Coloured Plaited mare “ Palmira” and Native Stallion “ Login Lucky Lad” and again going on to do the double with “Royal Angel “ The Great Yorkshire, Royal Three Counties Show, Royal Windsor , Royal Bath and West Show, The Royal Show , The North of England Show ,The Scottish Horse Show , The Royal International Horse Show and many other leading major events can also be added to Team Wood’s list of amazing achievements over the last few years 2014 started well for Michaela with championships at the North of England Spring Show , Derbyshire Festival , The Scottish Horse ( taking the Supreme of show there too ) and the Great Yorkshire Show. However her season was cut short as Michaela became pregnant much to the delight of her fiancé Sam and parents Martin and Sandra.

The rides were handed over to the Elliot sisters who continued where Michaela left off winning at the 2014 Horse of the Year show with “DP UK Night Dancer” and for the second year running with “Login Lucky Lad” Not to be out done Michaela’s father, Martin , won the prestigious Cuddy Supreme In Hand Championship with his Riding Pony Stallion “Rendene Royal Charm” making it three wins for the Wood family two years in succession at HOYS!! Michaela and Sam became proud parents of a little baby boy , Freddie , in November last year and after a break Michaela is now back riding and preparing for the 2015 showing season. “ I am really excited about this year and can’t wait to get back into the show ring after such a long layoff “ says Michaela. “We have some lovely new novices to run alongside our established champions too” HOYS winners “Palmira , Login Lucky Lad and DPUK Night Dancer will be out again in 2015 together with HOYS runner up, the Welsh Section D Stallion “ Swchyrhafod Brenin “

After a terrific 2014 season Michaela is especially looking forward to getting back into the Ridden Hunters again with her main challenger the Royal Three Counties Champion and Scottish Horse Supreme “ Temple Mill” – a beautiful , true to type Lightweight who gave Michaela her first Hunter win of her career at the Great Yorkshire in 2013. However the team has some exciting new novices to bring out including Coloured Traditional mare “Sherbet Dip” – a former Reserve Supreme In Hand Champion at the CHAPS Nationals , Coloured Native “ Lucky Star” , Middleweight Hunter “ Finkle Street” , Large Riding Horse “ Ballard Playboy “ and another Riding Horse , the 4 year old “ Finstown House “ , last year’s BSHA Supreme In Hand Champion. Last year’s leading Hunter Youngstock Champion “ Red Tape “ is broken and going well but is likely to take a year out from the show ring after an extensive In Hand career and will be back for the Ridden Weight classes in 2016.

However the reigning Cuddy HOYS In Hand Champion “Rendene Royal Charm “ will be making his debut under saddle in the HOYS Ridden Part Bred classes. Michaela’s father , Martin , is looking forward to seeing some of his own homebred youngsters competing in the show ring from his stables based at Birstwith as well as his established former Cuddy finalists produced by In Hand expert Steve Pitt Additionally Jerome Harforth will be producing last year’s HOYS Intermediate Reserve Champion “ Leaventhorpe Gold Rush “ for Michaela and this is regarded by many as the one to watch in 2015 “We have a new and experienced team of “back room” staff headed by Nigel Hollings, and I have a great feeling about the 2015 showing season and just cant wait to get going”
